Megan Thee Stallion completes a trio of new entries, complementing some of the bigger hits from last year from Casso, Tate McRae and Sonny Fodera which take their 2023 momentum into a second month. Top of the Pops, 11th January 2024

It's the post-Christmas chart, which means that everyone is going UP, which means a high-quality show where everyone is in the top ten - a true rundown of what's popular right now. That means a lot of the strongest tracks from the second half of last year, but also Sophie Ellis Bextor riding the Saltburn wave, who takes the TOTP stage for the first time in a long time and shows the rest how it's done.

Other than that, Tate McRae has a big moment with two top 20 singles, and Noah Kahan finally takes the top spot after a few patient weeks waiting for Wham! to clear out of the way.

It's the weird post-Christmas chart where all the tinsel gets cleared out and the normal music floods back in to take its place. That means newish material from Central Cee and SZA, older 2022 bangers from Anne-Marie and Venbee and Goddard, and a very old, hoary and well-tested number from Tom Odell.

All the congratulations in the world to RAYE. It's been a long journey but here she is at the top.

Almost! But the week belongs to the elves, with Ed Sheeran reprising his instant Christmas classic from last year, an oldie from the late Chris Rea, a newie from Lizzo, and even Paul McCartney dropping in like King Wenceslas to deliver the flesh, wine and pine logs of Wonderful Christmastime in person.
