At last, we Radio 1 listeners will be able to turn our radios back on without fear of hearing yet more about the Big Weekend that we aren't going to. But the event's aftershocks do rumble TOTP this week, as Katy Perry and Pharrell to name but two float back up the charts.

Friends of the show Coldplay's album debuts at number 1 and sends three of its tracks into the singles countdown as well, so Chris Martin's and co bring us an album sampler. Sean the Paul, here as guest on Fuse ODG's track, fills in for Snoop on the Jason Derulo joint for another TOTP one-off.

Top of the Pops, 15th May 2014

Only two new entries make it on to the show this week, so there is room for reprises of some older hits: Mr Probz is back, and Gary Barlow brings along some banjo and jug players to perform a special way-out-west version of Let Me Go. At the more sophisticated end of the scale we have Pharrell plus backing dancers doing Marilyn Monroe, and a rare appearance from the inimitable Ms Keys. Friend of the show Jason Derulo is in the building too, without Snoop Dogg but instead recruiting a game Gary Barlow to fill in on the "wiggle wiggle wiggle" bits.

It's Pharrell's week once again. Not only is the impish hat-donner now on a near-unprecedented third run at number one with a song newly anointed as a million-seller, he's also the ten-gallon musical brain behind Paloma Faith's new top ten entry; he duly larks around in the background of Paloma's performance before inviting her to join his own. New to TOTP this week are John Legend and American Authors, and international diva Beyonce drops by (with another sparkly dress) as her Brits-performed track rises another place.

Top of the Pops, 27th February 2014

It's been a Britsy week. Five of our acts here are Brit Award winners or performers, including Bastille and Rudimental reprising their team-up from the ceremony itself (and even our presenter, Duffy, is a three-time former winner). Katy Perry even brings most of her set from the Brits show along with her. Non-Brit tracks include newies from Tegan and Sara and A Great Big World, plus a long-running mid-hit from Idina Menzel. Critics' Choice Sam Smith actually has four songs in the top 75, but this week is all about Money On My Mind.

Shakira comes without Rihanna but is easily able to swivel hips for two, and Pharrell performs a lovely percussion-only version of Happy for his third week at number 1. A couple of rare treats this week. First Beyonce jets in to bring us (most of) not one but two tracks from her barricade-storming new album. Second, the Gaga/Aguilera diva double both appear to sing the revamped version of Do What U Want which is currently giving the track a second wind. Elsewhere there is a high banger concentration; Pharrell isn't here in person so we enjoy the video for Happy.

Top of the Pops, 10th October 2013

One of the more surprising leaps to number 1 of recent years brings a celebratory performance from a grinning OneRepublic. Elsewhere, we have a good mix of borderline novelty rap, dance and singy-guitary things, plus a rescreening of an Oasis behemoth from back in the day (resurrected by some X Factor audition, I'd bet).

Chase & Status ft Moko - Count On Me

Thursday, 18 July 2013

Top of the Pops, 18th July 2013

Pink and Lily Rose Cooper - True Love

Up 23 to number 36 - The show kicks off with the formidable figure of Pink, plus a blink-and-miss-it cameo from Lily to provide a counterpoint to the lusty belting. Sure to climb the chart again next week.

Lawson - Brokenhearted

In at number 6 - Lawson fill the screen with charm and verve. Few notice BOB's absence.

Katy B - What Love Is Made Of

In at number 21 - Time to get the crowd bouncing, as the duchess of dubstep makes sure her return is a triumphant one.

Sebastian Ingrosso ft Tommy Trash and John Martin - Reload

Highest New Entry - In at number 3 - No longer in the Swedish House Mafia but still in a trio of sorts, Mr Ingrosso brings his vocalist friends along to shake the joint.

Iggy Azalea - Bounce

In at number 13 - The bangers just keep on coming. A typically free-spirited performance here.

Ed Sheeran with Lily Rose Cooper - Everything Has Changed

Up 3 to number 12 - Taylor is busy this week, but Ed's available. The result: a true TOTP moment as Lily Rose Cooper is roped in to do Swift's bits, giving a fresh take on this touching duet. Public demand for a proper release of this version is to build over the next few weeks.

Sneakbo - Ring a Ling

In at number 27 - A bit of British rap amps up the crowd.

Robin Thicke ft TI and Pharrell - Blurred Lines

Up 1 to number 1 - As the man Nick Grimshaw once called "Ye Olde Thicko" climbs back to number 1, we have an opportunity to show you the video. Not the uncut version, though. And not the uncut cut version either - that's still a bit much for TOTP. Instead, we proudly present our own cleaned-up edit of the clean(er) edit, which basically boils down to three minutes of T.I. tapdancing - no bad thing.

PRESENTER: Kimberley Walsh

Thursday, 20 June 2013

Top of the Pops, 20th June 2013

It's back! Welcome to the first episode of the all-new, same old Top of the Pops. Since this is the grand re-commissioning, I've assumed that every artist we ask makes the effort to turn up. That won't be the case in all the weeks to come, but for now let's enjoy the perfect line-up for this week.

Jessie J ft Dizzee Rascal - Wild

Up 2 to number 6 - Who better to kick off the show than your friend and mine, Jessie J? Sadly Big Sean is unavailable, so instead we get a lean, trimmed-down Jessie and Dizzee performance to get things jumping.

Wiley ft Angel and Tinchy Strider - Lights On

Highest New Entry - In at number 9 - The fast tempo continues as Wiley, Angel and Tinchy take the stage.

Leah McFall - I Will Survive

Up 8 to number 16 - Something a bit unusual here. Leah is too busy with preparations for The Voice final to come on TOTP, so we run the tape of her crowd-pleasing original performance of this song, mixed with clips of her journey through The Voice and Will I Am pratting about.

Passenger - Let Her Go

Up 1 to number 3 - Here's this week's slowie. The lights dim, the candles come out and the audience gather round the small, square stage to sway and dab at their eyes.

Mariah Carey and Miguel - #Beautiful

Up 1 to number 23 - Both Mariah and Miguel miraculously make it in for a top-class performance that's sure to send this one soaring up the chart next week.

Bruno Mars - Treasure

Up 2 to number 13 - Here's something you won't get anywhere else. Previous single When I Was Your Man is also making its way back up the chart this week, so Bruno favours us with a medley of both songs. He wears a hat.

From the Vault: Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince - Summertime

Up 5 to number 36 - This week's oldie is this much-loved summer classic. The custodians of the tape vault dig out a fun performance from 1991, which looks all the better by comparison with the Prince's current exploits in sci-fi funfest After Earth.

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran - Everything Has Changed

High Climber - Up 46 to number 7 - Taylor and Ed bring the emotion for an intense performance of their duet.

Psy - Gentleman

Up 34 to number 17 - He couldn't miss the relaunch of the greatest show on TV. Zooming back up the chart especially for us, Psy tears the house down with a lavishly staged performance of his second best song, involving confetti cannons, two dozen dancers and an on-stage limo.

Robin Thicke ft Pharrell - Blurred Lines

Third week at number 1 - No Hayden Panetierre this time, but Robin and Pharrell both turn up to close the show.

PRESENTER: Steve Jones
