Top of the Pops, 24th April 2025

Alex Warren is still fairly uncontested at the top, but there's a notable chart achievement from Sombr, whose multiple tracks on the chart permit a fourth consecutive showing from the new artiste.

Aside from that we have a couple of climbers, a debut and a big re-entry, and a real curiosity in the shape of Jack Black's very short song from the Minecraft film: he makes the most of his screen time with an outlandish costume and a confetti cannon.

Top of the Pops, 29th August 2024

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are the biggest news this week, dropping in seemingly out of nowhere with a top ten smash. Post Malone's album is out as well, so he performs a triple bill sampler of its three rootin' tootin' hits.

Top of the Pops, 8th August 2024

The brat summer continues with Charli XCX reaching a new peak, still outside the top ten though, and working in a bit of the remix as well. Perhaps even more fabulous is Chappell Roan, now at number 2 and also able to perform a second hit.

Meanwhile there's a decent entry for Post Malone and a debut for Adam Port. We welcome back Shaboozey and Kendrick, take a look at the young years of Justin Timbo and the N*SYNC boys, and continue to enjoy Sabrina Carpenter who is really putting down roots in the top spot - she performs with a bluegrass-inspired arrangement this week.

Top of the Pops, 27th June 2024

This week is a bit of a round-up of a lot of the big hits of the last few months, with a strong skew towards that American country-adjacent sound that's made such an unexpected impact his year. So we've got Dasha, Benson Boone, Michael Marcagi, Post Malone going country, and the rest.

A bit breezier is Sabrina Carpenter, hitting number 1 now with her Meghan Trainor-esque newer hit (with Espresso at number 2 as well). And what's that on the horizon? Football might be coming home so here are its sempiternal harbingers, Baddiel and Skinner.

Top of the Pops, 23rd May 2024

The year's trend so far for hits by earnest beardy guys is showcased particularly well this week, with longish runners Mark Ambor and Michael Marcagi joined by Myles Smith and, more alarmingly, Post Malone and Morgan Wallen (maybe not all of them have beards, but they are beardy in spirit).

However there is tonal variation provided by Chappell Roan and Eurovision's triumphant Nemo. And the ever perky Sabrina Carpenter remains at the top.

Top of the Pops, 2nd May 2024

In a week with such a high profile new release, it was inevitable that the number 1 spot would of course be taken by the world-shaking cultural icon Post Malone - and of course Taylor Swift, on whose song he is kindly invited to guest.

Elsewhere the influx of Swift has pushed most other songs down a few places, so we have to look a fair way down the chart for other climbers. That's good news for Shaboozey and Lay Bankz, and even Pozer down at number 41. Also of note is the new entry from Headie One and Stormzy - with a perhaps surprisingly low-key chart position for such a big-name team-up, but of course they bring the energy to the TOTP studio.

Debuts: Lay Bankz, Shaboozey

There's an unprecedented Eurovision flavour to the show this week, as no fewer than four of the featured acts invade the top ten. Some of the performances shown here are taken from the event itself, but Mae Muller and winner Loreen make the trip to the TOTP studio.

In non-Euro news, Jazzy has a breakthrough climb and we welcome international megastar Post Malone, homegrown chart behemoth Lewis Capaldi, and a first appearance for almost two years for Little Durk.

If rock is over, nobody told My Chemical Romance, who open the show this week. There's also a pleasingly retro feel about our Eurovision-powered highest new entry from Sam Ryder. More contemporary sounds come from Post Malone, friends of the show D-Block Europe and Kendrick Lamar, and there's a welcome return for La Roux doing her cameo on the Tion Wayne track. It's been pretty slow-moving chart lately, but this week we have absolute fireworks. Not only does the Charlie's Angels theme crash in just short of the top spot (sadly only two of the pop triumvirate are here to perform it) but we also have chartbreakers from Stormzy, Normani, Dave, D-Block Europe and a resurgent Lil Nas X.

Most surprising of all must be a TOTP return for Ozzy Osbourne, alongside his good friend Post Malone. In a week of turmoil, the only certainty is that King Ed Sheeran still reigns at the top.

Once again more than half the line-up this week is britrap and related music - 2019 has really been the year for it. Meanwhile Post Malone seems to have abandoned US-rap for the moment, dropping in at number 11 with a soft rock song instead.

In other genres, Rita Ora fronts Jonas Blue's dance ditty as it reaches a new high position, and chart behemoth Lewis Capaldi flies the flag for hoary balladeering.
