Top of the Pops, 29th March 2018

The highest new entry this week is a novelty single: Lil Dicky and the dashing Chris Brown turn TOTP Thursday into Freaky Friday. Also making chart inroads are XXXtentacion, Khalid and Normani (of Fifth Harmony, or possibly ex-Fifth Harmony), and the indestructible Sigala.

We have a couple of special exclusives, too. Florida Georgia Line are back with a solo rendition of Let Me Go, their Hailee Steinfeld co-credit, and Maren Morris leaves the DJs at home to bring us an acoustic version of The Middle.

PS If you're wondering where Rudimental have got to, the problem is that they've been a non-mover for weeks and weeks, stuck behind Drake. Apart from the number 1 we only feature chart climbers, so they haven't been on much. Sorry, hat guy, but those are the rules.

Debuts: Lil Dicky.

(sort of) from Coldplay, and soul! from the arrestingly gifted MNEK, who performs a stripped-back version of his hit with Gorgon City. And friends of the show One Republic are back, this time romping through Counting Stars on banjos and jug.

Top of the Pops, 20th March 2014

We see big comebacks from three female solo artists this week: Kylie Minogue, Pixie Lott and the singer-songwriter-type Christina Perri. John Legend continues his slow, sentimental chart climb, and there is a bouncing return from One Direction as their AC/DC-style rocker pops back into the top 40. The novelty genre is also strongly represented by the Chainsmokers and Flo Rida, while friend of the show Tinie Tempah (and some trolls hunched over Korgs) crash in at the top.

Second TOTP appearance for the Wanted this week, but the big news is two appearances from US megastars - Linkin Park and Nicki Minaj, who appears without Chris Brown who was otherwise engaged. Plinky plonky singers Christina Perri and Birdy both appear with possibly X-Factor-related chart ascents, while Jason Derulo crashes in at the top with 2 Chainz along for the ride.
