Top of the Pops, 9th March 2023

It's a varied selection this week, as chart fluctuations mean that several tracks from the lower half of the top 40 are featured. That means debut appearances for Caity Baser, Ayra Starr and Superstar Pride, a return to the show for Freya Ridings, and a reprise of Hide & Seek from Stormzy. Star power comes from a huge team-up by friends of the show Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, while Miley Cyrus makes it lucky seven weeks on top.

New material comes from Tracey's samplee Jorja Smith, who brings along Burna Boy to perform our highest new entry. And Shawn Mendes is back to give us the standard version of his duet with Camila Cabello.

Camila Cabello (plus Shawn Mendes) skips back up to number 1, making it five weeks in a row on the show for the Americo-Cuban chanteuse. Also returning are Kygo (with Kelli-Leigh doing the Whitney bit again), Katy Perry, Stormzy and the long-running Freya Ridings.

New material comes from Lil Nas X, dance DJs featuring Rita Ora, and the big new entry from Sam Smith. Ed Sheeran takes a week off for once.

Lots of changes on the chart here. King Ed is finally deposed from number 1 by our new king and queen, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. There's a trio of strong new entries from Mist, Post Malone and D-Block Europe, and longtime climbers from Kygo, Freya Ridings, Miley Cyrus and especially AJ Tracey are all rewarded with new chart peaks. Tracey welcomes his sampled vocalist Jorja Smith onto the show to sing live in celebration, while Kygo gets leading soundalike singer Kelli-Leigh to pay tribute to Whitney.

2019 looks set to be a banner year for Westlife: this is their second appearance in as many months. Rag 'N' Bone Man is looking good too after a quiet 2018, and Freya Ridings shows no sign of running out of chart stamina.

New entry-wise, waves are made by friend of the show Dua Lipa as well as J Cole. Ariana Grande holds steady at the summit.

Gaga and Cooper hold firm at the top, although they can't make it into the studio this week so we see the relevant bit of the film instead. However we do have strong in-person performances from friends of the show Jess Glynne and Little Mix, plus Freya Ridings scaling yet another new chart peak.

On the American side of things we have Cardi B assuming full vocal duties on the DJ Snake track, and Kodak Black bringing both his friends along to perform the all-star version of Zeze for the first time.

Another new number 1: this time it's the low-key banger from Calvin Harris and Sam Smith nipping ahead of the competition. Though perhaps bigger chart waves are made by Eminem, The Ringer spearheading a trio of new entries from his latest album.

Elsewhere, Freya Ridings finally makes the cut in her eighth week on the chart, and there are reprises of long-running hits from B Young, CamelPhat and friend of the show Anne-Marie (sans Guetta this time). And there's a special appearance from supergroup LSD: Labrinth, Sia and Diplo if you're wondering.
