Top of the Pops, 5th June 2025

The good times continue to roll for Alex Warren: not only does he make it to eleven weeks at number 1, he also has the highest new entry with another song! Chappell Roan bobs back up to number 2 again but you feel it will take something more to dislodge Mr Warren.

Lower down the top 40 King Ed Sheeran continues his low-key album campaign, and there are some interesting debuts and another hit for 2025's most likely lad, Myles Smith. Between MGK and Alex Warren's collaborator Jelly Roll, it's a good week for unhealthy looking Americans. Tate McRae is on the show again also, battling her way into the public consciousness by force of will.

Debuts: Max Dean, Luke Dean, Locky, Jelly Roll.

At the other end of the musical spectrum, maybe, are raucous debutantes KATSEYE, and there are other new entries from Jorja Smith and a surprisingly mid-table King Ed Sheeran.

Sombr also returns once more, as do the likeable Nathan Dawe and Myles Smith.

There's still no stopping Miss 2024 Sabrina Carpenter: she powers through the six-week barrier to capture a seventh week at number 1 with Taste (to add to all those other weeks with her other hits already this year). And not only that: she fills in alongside Bruno Mars, as Lady Gaga is off promoting her Joker musical madhouse film.

Elsewhere we have the return of international megastar Jimin, a nice slowed-down candlelight performance from Jazzy, and a big new entry from KSI. Plus a new chart peak for Addison Rae and a look back into the past with Crowded House.

Top of the Pops, 1st August 2024

Lots of people making moves on the charts this week. There are two big entries from former group members, for Jade (Little Mix) and Jimin (BTS). There are new chart peaks for adult-contemporary trendsetters Myles Smith and Benson Boone. There's a big rush, as the brat summer builds, for Charli XCX. And Billie Eilish hits number 2 and brings along another new track as a bonus.

Central Cee is here with another guest rapper to fill in for Lil Baby. But the most impressive of all is Miss 2024 Sabrina Carpenter, who knocks herself off the top to give Please Please Please a second run to follow the second run of Espresso. Wow.

Top of the Pops, 27th June 2024

This week is a bit of a round-up of a lot of the big hits of the last few months, with a strong skew towards that American country-adjacent sound that's made such an unexpected impact his year. So we've got Dasha, Benson Boone, Michael Marcagi, Post Malone going country, and the rest.

A bit breezier is Sabrina Carpenter, hitting number 1 now with her Meghan Trainor-esque newer hit (with Espresso at number 2 as well). And what's that on the horizon? Football might be coming home so here are its sempiternal harbingers, Baddiel and Skinner.

Top of the Pops, 6th June 2024

The 2024 trend of rootsiness continues, with Zach Bryan entering the chart and a double performance from the man who might have started it all (?), Teddy Swims. Some variation is provided by Bring Me The Horizon's metalish rock and Central Cee's mid-Atlantic rap sound, plus Billie Eilish with another song from her album following the double bill last week.

None of that multifarious authenticity, however, can dislodge the incongruously breezy Sabrina Carpenter from number 1. Five weeks now!

Top of the Pops, 23rd May 2024

The year's trend so far for hits by earnest beardy guys is showcased particularly well this week, with longish runners Mark Ambor and Michael Marcagi joined by Myles Smith and, more alarmingly, Post Malone and Morgan Wallen (maybe not all of them have beards, but they are beardy in spirit).

However there is tonal variation provided by Chappell Roan and Eurovision's triumphant Nemo. And the ever perky Sabrina Carpenter remains at the top.
