Top of the Pops, 29th March 2018

The highest new entry this week is a novelty single: Lil Dicky and the dashing Chris Brown turn TOTP Thursday into Freaky Friday. Also making chart inroads are XXXtentacion, Khalid and Normani (of Fifth Harmony, or possibly ex-Fifth Harmony), and the indestructible Sigala.

We have a couple of special exclusives, too. Florida Georgia Line are back with a solo rendition of Let Me Go, their Hailee Steinfeld co-credit, and Maren Morris leaves the DJs at home to bring us an acoustic version of The Middle.

PS If you're wondering where Rudimental have got to, the problem is that they've been a non-mover for weeks and weeks, stuck behind Drake. Apart from the number 1 we only feature chart climbers, so they haven't been on much. Sorry, hat guy, but those are the rules.

Debuts: Lil Dicky.

I don't think anyone could have predicted the success of the Greatest Showman soundtrack, but here it is, the biggest movie chart phenomenon since Frozen - and This Is Me is still in the top ten, which Let It Go never quite managed. Keala Settle appears once again to belt it out.

Elsewhere we have the second TOTP appearance this year for the unlikely Florida Georgia Line, a welcome reappearance by the girl band M.O., and the return of Years & Years. Various other popular hits of the day complete the line-up.

But there are also exciting new hits from Zedd, Paloma Faith and TOTP debutant XXXtentacion. Several new songs storm the charts this week, mingling with the ever-present Drake, Not3s and Mabel. Most impressive are Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign, but there's also room for strong chart charges by 5 Seconds of Summer, Ed Sheeran, and a TOTP mainstay of a couple of years ago, George Ezra. Anne-Marie and B Young round out a diverse and riveting show.

Finally, Justin Timberlake's new hit has climbed high enough to get the guy featured, along with featuree Chris Stapleton of course. There's also fresh material from Khalid and Bazzi, but a slow-moving chart means that the rest of the show consists of reprises: Portugal The Man, Kendrick Lamar, and friends of the show Dua Lipa, Mabel and Not3s. Drake's number 1 run looks set to stretch out and out.
