Top of the Pops, 24th April 2025

Alex Warren is still fairly uncontested at the top, but there's a notable chart achievement from Sombr, whose multiple tracks on the chart permit a fourth consecutive showing from the new artiste.

Aside from that we have a couple of climbers, a debut and a big re-entry, and a real curiosity in the shape of Jack Black's very short song from the Minecraft film: he makes the most of his screen time with an outlandish costume and a confetti cannon.

Top of the Pops, 15th June 2023

There are second appearances this week for three tracks that are showing more chart staying power than perhaps might have been expected: the Eurovision winner Loreen, plus Kylie Minogue and Lana Del Rey, who in recent years have often both seen their high chart entries drop down in subsequent weeks. Not this time!

There's also a healthy dose of dance music from Hannah Laing and Becky Hill (unbelievably, the dance queen's first appearance this year), as well as a sighting of Jorja Smith. It's always nice to welcome Madonna back to the show, but perhaps the biggest news is Dave and Central Cee's superstar team-up finally knocking Calvin and Ellie off the top.

Calvin Harris is back in the studio for the proper rave-up version of Miracle as it reaches six weeks at the top. Other dance bangers are brought by Anne-Marie, Rudimental and Switch Disco, and the latter two join Calvin to do a three-way euphoric remix of As It Was as Harry Styles celebrates 60 consecutive weeks on the chart, most of them in the upper reaches.

Two big names have new entries this week: Lana Del Rey and Kylie Minogue both do well with their fresh material. David Kushner is also back with his Hozier-style, inexplicably popular balled.

Top of the Pops, 5th June 2014

Another rush of new entries this week, although they are a nicely varied bunch encompassing dance, rock, and moody American cinerama-pop; Lana Del Rey (for it is she) favours us with two songs from her forthcoming CD. Sam Smith drops down the chart with last week's number 1, but previous hit Money On My Mind is still buoyant so he nets a coveted two TOTPs in a row. Friend of the show and human ray of sunshine Ellie Goulding returns once again, with an all-new song. And summer must be coming, because Kevin Lyttle's ten-year-old reggae smash Turn Me On is climbing the lower reaches once more.

A lot of star power this week: Gaga, Miley and Lana all show up as well as Ellie Goulding returning triumphantly for a third week at number 1. TOTP veteran Shane Filan (ex-Westlife) is also here, kicking off a solo career. But the show is stolen by the irrepressible Rizzle Kicks, marauding all over the stage and through the audience and into your front room.

Top of the Pops, 8th August 2013

Several enduringly popular tracks are bobbing back up the chart this week, which means that some entries from a couple of months ago deservingly get their time in the spotlight, while other acts return for a reprise with the chance to do something slightly different. And there's an exclusive two-song medley from one returning star.

John Newman - Love Me Again

Up 2 to number 2 - Bounding back up the chart, John Newman returns with a gospel choir to love us again again.

Calvin Harris ft. Ayah Marar - Thinking About You

Up 5 to number 9 - Calvin and Ayah are back to storm the barn for a second time.

Eliza Doolittle - Big When I Was Little/ You And Me

Highest New Entry - In at number 12 / Back in at number 73 - Eliza has two tracks to bring us this week. Most of her slot is devoted to new hit Big When I Was Little, but there's also time for a quick acapella segue into You And Me, which has slipped back into the lower end of the rundown.

Imagine Dragons - It's Time

Up 23 to number 30 - Rock song of the the week from these adequately groomed North Americans.

AlunaGeorge - You Know You Like It

In at number 39 - In the week that their album enters the chart, George and Aluna bring us an icily boisterous performance of this returning older hit.

Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness

High Climber - Up 28 to number 4 - Wait, come back! This is the dance remix. Minimal staging, maximal raving.

Jay-Z ft. Justin Timberlake - Holy Grail

Up 6 to number 11 - Jay and JT have been climbing the top 30 for a few weeks, but only now have schedules lined up to permit this appearance. As you'd hope, it's something pretty special, the toe-tapping twosome matching each other line for line and hook for hook.

Avicii ft. Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up

Third week at number 1 - Time for something a bit different in week 3: Avicii takes a break and Aloe Blacc ropes in a finger-pickin' friend for a stripped-back bluegrass version.
