Top of the Pops, 17th November 2016

The teen idol side of things is amply catered for here with appearances from Niall Horan and the lovely, beautiful, precious, adorable Vamps. And Little Mix may not be number 1 any more but we've the next best thing, Fifth Harmony.

There's a new one from Rae Sremmurd (who he) and a couple of tunes that have been around a while from Neiked, who scale a new peak after 11 weeks on the chart, and Calvin Harris. And that Little Mix-shaped gap at number 1 is filled by friends of the show Clean Bandit and friends (Sean Paul is back to his always available self this week).

Top of the Pops, 27th October 2016

Lots of action this week. Little Mix splurge in at the top of the chart, but that's not all - jaws drop as Drake and Rihanna, who are always in the chart, actually pop into the studio to perform two of their streaming perennials. And a slow chart week also gives niche heritage act the Kings of Leon the chance to come along and show what they can do.

Manic energy is provided by the Vamps, Galantis, Maroon 5 and to a lesser extent Fifth Harmony, and Neiked continue to make impressive strides - top ten next week?

Double Bieber today, as Justin has both the number one single AND the highest new entry (alongside DJ Snake). Not sure if anyone's ever done that before with two different songs. There's double as well as the co-number 1er has her own Final Song climbing the chart.

The rest of this week's line-up is fairly varied, featuring dance from TIEKS, leftfield pop from Christine and the Queens, centrefield pop from Fifth Harmony, and the entire line-up of that song from the Suicide Squad film - incidentally giving the icon Lil Wayne his TOTP debut.

Top of the Pops, 4th August 2016

BIG NEWS this week: Drake is finally knocked off the top spot, all the way down to number five in fact, leaving Bryan Adams's sixteen-week record intact. It's taken three performers to do what no one else could do, and Major Lazer, Justin Bieber and are all in the studio getting their groove on in celebration.

Further freshness comes from a new Fifth Harmony song, as they and Fetty Wap treat us to an exclusive double header that combines the new one with 2016 standout Work From Home. The rest of the show is a grab-bag of the perennially popular tracks of the moment: Calum Scott, DNCE, Christine and the Queens, Kent Jones and the latest drone-along from Bastille.

The exclusive collaborations keep coming: this week Craig David adds some smooth vocals to Fifth Harmony's Work From Home, continuing his jaw-dropping resurgence. Snakehips' appearance this week is something special too: a percussion only version of their anthemic track.

We also have re-appearances from longtime absentees Meghan Trainor and the Chainsmokers (of #SELFIE fame). And Mike Posner makes it three weeks ruling all he surveys.

Rapidly cementing friend of the show Zara Larsson opens things up. She could actually have appeared twice this week but instead MNEK gives us a solo, stripped back rendition of their evergreen Never Forget You. We also have exciting statesiders Ariana Grande and Fifth Harmony, as well as persistent Macklemore-alikes Twenty One Pilots. And the unlikeliest number one since, well, the last one arguably.

Zara Larsson is all over TOTP at the moment: one week after a double-bill performance, she returns to guest on the Tinie Tempah track - and also has the great honour of joining Coldplay for Beyonce's bit on Hymn For The Weekend.

It's not all about her though. Perky young rakes The 1975 are back in, as is a strong American contingent and Zara's fellow Scandinavians Lukas Graham at number one.

Lots of non-movers and dippers in the chart this week, so we uncover some hidden and not-so-hidden gems from outside the Top 40 - a twosie from 5 Seconds Of Summer and that old sludger from Hozier. Maroon 5 and Fifth Harmony also pop up to take advantage of the chart's tranquility.

Further up the rankings, we have a big new entry from Martin Solveig, and an even bigger one from Jess Glynne, who's making it look pretty easy at the moment.

Top of the Pops, 16th July 2015

This is the week the chart changes from Sunday to Friday, though TOTP of course remains in its Thursday slot, now with a whole week to book the acts. What it does mean is that there's more chart upheaval than usual, with David Zowie the big winner from a 51-place leap to the top.

We also have Fifth Harmony with their best-ever chart place, the new one from Years & Years, and another performance from friend of the show The Weeknd. No idea why Ginuwine is back in the chart but he is, so we dig out an old clip for everyone's enjoyment.

Top of the Pops, 18th December 2014

It's the week before Christmas and the race for Christmas number 1 is too close to call. Two of the runners and riders are here in the form of Band Aid and Uptown Funk, although we can only show the video in both cases. It's also Wizzard's turn for a festive vault-dredging.

In non-festive action, metalcore gets a rare bit of TOTP representation in the form of Bring Me The Horizon, one of three new entries from three TOTP first-timers, and there is a barn-storming eighth appearance of the year from friends of the show and alarming chart yo-yos One Direction. Finally, George Ezra debuts single number 3, with a burst of Budapest thrown in as a bonus.
