A few long-running hits finally get over the TOTP appearance threshold: Lizzo's Good As Hell (an Ariana Grande remix will do it), Maroon 5's Memories and Riton's Turn Me On. Meduza and Goodboys are also making some serious inroads and friend of the show Aitch is here once again, but not even King Ed Sheeran can knock Tones & I off the summit.

There are a lot of familiar faces on the show this week - Sam Smith, chart mastodon Lewis Capaldi, Post Malone, friend of the show Aitch - but one thing we did NOT expect was the number 1. Tones & I leaps like Katarina Johnson-Thompson to take the top spot, so maximum credit to her.

Top of the Pops, 3rd October 2019

After last week's chart mayhem, this TOTP is the complete opposite: every song in the top 5 gets to appear, and they're all tracks that have been around for quite some time. Crowning it all is King Ed Sheeran, still top of the chart, though he mixes it up a bit by mixing in a bit of Beautiful People, thanks to a cameo by friend of the show Khalid.

For a bit of variety we do have a triple bill from Burna Boy, who features on three chart climbers this week. He performs his bits of all of them, bringing along TOTP debutante Mahalia to help with the most obscure of the three.

Debuts: Mahalia

Sam Feldt ft. Rani - Post Malone
