Top of the Pops, 23rd March 2023

It's been a while since a massive track splatted into the top ten but that's what we have this week, as Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding smash down at number 3. It's not enough to best Miley Cyrus though, and her next-best competition seems to come from herself as River is the second highest new entry.

Further down we have Switch Disco with their own Robert Miles homage, well deserved returns from Ayra Starr, Coi LeRay and (at yet another new peak) Lizzy McAlpine, plus the first bit of drill for a while from Digga D. And lovely George Ezra pops in to celebrate the vernal equinox.

Top of the Pops, 21st April 2022

Harry Styles continues to fry all opposition with the force of his pure loveliness, even Jack Harlow who can only reach number 2 (still hugely impressive from him). Not too shabby either is Cat Burns, who makes the top five for the first time.

There's a raft of new tracks on the show this week, including Digga D, Vibe Chemistry and Becky Hill and Ella Henderson trying to out-belt each other, plus a Tyga/Doja Cat collaboration that's spent a few weeks in the lower reaches already. Doja sticks around to exclusively do the Fergie bits for Jack Harlow as well, which is nice.

Top of the Pops, 24th February 2022

Huge congratulation to the Encanto Crew this week as they reach their finest achievement yet: holding steady at the top of the chart in defiance of the, one would have thought, unbeatable Sheeran/Swift team-up. Ed and Taylor are there at number 2, though, and Dove Cameron and Central Cee also have strong chart entries.

We welcome back top drill interpreter Digga D, showing more chart longevity than usual with his latest track, as well as Belters Only and Luude, who both reach new peaks this week. And there's a huge leap by Adele - for Valentine's Day?

The biggest new entry this week is from drill star Digga D and his mate StillBrickin: they turn up and bring the fire as we'd expect. Chart inroads are also made by Mr New Year himself, Years and Years, former number 1 artiste Gunna, and the lovable Charlie Puth.

Lost Frequencies and Belters Only are both invited back as their tracks continue to hit new peaks, the latter bringing us a special candlelight version. Meat Loaf is remembered in the From The Vault slot, and the Encanto crew hold firm at the top.

Top of the Pops, 26th August 2021

King Ed Sheeran can't be shifted from the top and it's hard to see who would even have a chance - the highest new entry this week is from Digga D and Arrdee and well done to them, but number 6 is a long way from number 1. It's a strong and diverse line-up on the show, though, with Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, KSI, Doja Cat, Little Mix, Anne-Marie and even Tones & I all arguably the the biggest current names in their respective sub-fields. Whew.

It's all about the Internet Money crew this week, as Gunna and co become one of the more unexpected number 1s of the year in their tenth week on the chart. Wes Nelson and Hardy Caprio seem to be in the middle of a similar climb - will they be next?

We've also got reappearances from Joel Corry and MNEK and Dermot Kennedy, and a new entry from Digga D. International megastars BTS also join a high-quality line-up, and James Arthur mixes in a little bit of his solo hit with the Sigala track.

Top of the Pops, 30th July 2020

This week is all about the feelgood hit of the summer from Joel Corry and MNEK, which skips up the final two places to give both performers a well deserved first number 1. They even breathe an infectious vivacity into the now terribly familiar TOTP Zoom team-up.

There are other chart stories here, though, notably from Drake, who has a ton of songs on the top 40 and performs three of them here. AJ Tracey and Harry Styles both scale new peaks this week, Sam Fischer is on the rise once again, and there's a slightly unexpected appearance from Digga D.

We're swamped with new entries this week, mostly from the world of rap, both British and US, but also including the third banger from Joel Corry - it's starting to look like the first one wasn't a fluke. Ty Dolla $ign and co make the most impressive use of the multi-way Zoom functionality, with an unexpected TOTP debut from FKA Twigs.

The chart story of the week has to be the late Pop Smoke, whose album places three hits in the top 40 and one in the top ten. Jason and Jawsh hang on for a second week at the top.
