Top of the Pops, 29th January 2026

A lot of fallers in the top 40 means that it's one of those weeks when the TOTP producers get to explore the lower reaches a bit. They find the evergreen People Watching from the hugely popular Sam Fender, a longtime bubbler-under from Addison Rae, and the first appearance in a long while from ASAP Rocky.

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are going back up the chart for whatever reason, as are the Cure, who get the From The Vault slot. There are strong new showings from Gunna and friend of the show Zara Larsson, while Dave (with Tems of course) gets a richly deserved, or even somewhat belated, number 1 hit.

The K-Pop Demon Hunters chart onslaught continues: they remain at number 1, and other songs such as Your Idol continue to be magnetically drawn towards the chart's upper placings. Not only that, girl group Twice, who've previously been heard under the Demon Hunters umbrella, are now here performing in their own right.

In non-K-pop news, the highest new entry is another strong showing by the new golden girl Olivia Dean, Gunna and Burna Boy charge into the top 40, and there's a double bill from the quietly-very-successful-just-now Sombr.

More familiar faces (to younger viewers) are Leigh-Anne with a respectable second solo hit, BTS's V making his solo debut, and the chart queen of the moment Olivia Rodrigo. None of them can knock Doja Cat off the top, though, and she has another outlandish red-themed performance to delight the viewers.

Taylor Swift is making a five-week run at the top of the chart look very effortless. They are in the From The Vault slot for now but might be tempted to appear in person if they climb higher?

Happy New Year! All the Christmas music has suddenly evanasced, so nearly every song in the chart is a climber - which means that this is going to be an especially creme-de-la-creme episode of TOTP, basically a Best Of Chart Music from the last couple of months. That means big names like Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish and chart monolith Lewis Capaldi, the inescapable Tones & I, and songs-of-the-moment from Endor and Arizona Zervas.

There is a bit of new stuff as well though, as One Acen and TOTP debutant Darkoo make the top 30 for the first time.

Top of the Pops, 19th December 2019

With one week to go, the contenders for Christmas number 1 are manoeuvring into position, spearheaded by the mighty Stormzy and then Dua Lipa. Although it all presupposes that it's even possible to dislodge Tones & I, who is inching up the all-time list of long-running number 1s.

Also in the festive spirit (ie wearing Santa hats) are Leona Lewis, Lewis Capaldi and the highest new entrant Harry Styles. And britrap, the genre of 2019, is not forgotten thanks to Young T and Bugsey (as well as Stormzy of course).

Top of the Pops, 3rd October 2019

After last week's chart mayhem, this TOTP is the complete opposite: every song in the top 5 gets to appear, and they're all tracks that have been around for quite some time. Crowning it all is King Ed Sheeran, still top of the chart, though he mixes it up a bit by mixing in a bit of Beautiful People, thanks to a cameo by friend of the show Khalid.

For a bit of variety we do have a triple bill from Burna Boy, who features on three chart climbers this week. He performs his bits of all of them, bringing along TOTP debutante Mahalia to help with the most obscure of the three.

Once again more than half the line-up this week is britrap and related music - 2019 has really been the year for it. Meanwhile Post Malone seems to have abandoned US-rap for the moment, dropping in at number 11 with a soft rock song instead.

In other genres, Rita Ora fronts Jonas Blue's dance ditty as it reaches a new high position, and chart behemoth Lewis Capaldi flies the flag for hoary balladeering.
