Top of the Pops, 8th November 2018

Gaga and Cooper hold firm at the top, although they can't make it into the studio this week so we see the relevant bit of the film instead. However we do have strong in-person performances from friends of the show Jess Glynne and Little Mix, plus Freya Ridings scaling yet another new chart peak.

On the American side of things we have Cardi B assuming full vocal duties on the DJ Snake track, and Kodak Black bringing both his friends along to perform the all-star version of Zeze for the first time.

Friends of the show Little Mix are back, assisted by Nicki Minaj this time. The multicollaborations seem endless at the moment: here's DJ Snake backing up two fairly big-name vocalists plus debutant Osuna, while even without French Montana the Sigala track is pretty much a party.

Stars, stars everywhere this week. Mars, Bieber, Grande, Minaj, even Kendrick Lamar pops up for his feature on the weirdly persistent Maroon 5 track. Friend of the show The Weeknd is also here and brings his confreres Daft Punk with him... or does he? It's hard to tell with those masks.

Mannequin challenge guys Rae Sremmurd are here too, and there's a real treat at number 1: Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj invade the Clean Bandit song, making a supercharged exclusive concoction of the kind you can only find on TOTP.

Top of the Pops, 18th August 2016

Double Bieber today, as Justin has both the number one single AND the highest new entry (alongside DJ Snake). Not sure if anyone's ever done that before with two different songs. There's double as well as the co-number 1er has her own Final Song climbing the chart.

The rest of this week's line-up is fairly varied, featuring dance from TIEKS, leftfield pop from Christine and the Queens, centrefield pop from Fifth Harmony, and the entire line-up of that song from the Suicide Squad film - incidentally giving the icon Lil Wayne his TOTP debut.

The two big stories of the week are both represented here. We show three of the vids from Beyonce's new 'visual album' (in a very rare break of the no videos rule), and the From The Vault slot is of course filled by a stone cold classic from the already much missed Prince.

It's hard for others to compete with that one-two punch, but we have a resurgent Meghan Trainor, an ebullient Little Mix, and the effervescent DNCE all trying their hardest. At number one, Drake gives a subdued, almost acapella solo performance of One Dance.

Kiesza tops the charts and brings some star quality to an otherwise relatively low-key week full of shadowy dance DJs and the fanbase-powered chart overperformance of Elyar Fox. Other highlights are Paolo Nutini peddling a two-track sampler from his number 1 album, and Ed Sheeran celebrating his Hobbit hit's longevity by dressing up as Frodo Baggins (should have been Bilbo - we'll get letters).
