Top of the Pops, 22nd August 2024

After a summer of Sabrina stability, and a week of Charli, there's more upheaval at the top of the chart as Chase and Status and Stormzy smash into the number 1 spot. It's a pretty dance-heavy week all around in fact, with Adam Port, BL3SS, the Blessed Madonna and the lord of the floor Calvin Harris (again with princess Ellie Goulding) all appearing. The other Madonna, Madonna, is also featured in the from the vault slot.

But despite all that, the show is possibly stolen by a resurgent Jade, performing the slow, angelic, dramatic version of Angel Of My Dreams with piano and orchestra.

Big new entries from Drake and to a lesser extent Beyonce have pushed most of the other songs down the chart, so we have to delve a long way to find performers - but we strike gold with fresh tracks from Doja Cat and a triumphantly returning Chase and Status.

One of the more surprising leaps to number 1 of recent years brings a celebratory performance from a grinning OneRepublic. In at number 15 - An intense performance from the returning duo (plus friend) to open the show.

Andrea Begley - My Immortal

In at number 37 - These two up-and-coming urban artistes show the prime-time audience what they're all about.

High Climber - Up 39 to number 3 - Will does his robo-thing.

Rudimental and John Newman - Feel the Love

Up 1 to number 38 - Another hit that's been bubbling for a long time makes its way onto the show. John Newman in particular seems like a star in the making...

Icona Pop - I Love It

In at number 1 - A triumphant, effervescent performance from the Swedish newcomers. No Charli XCX although she is sometimes credited on the single - she will bide her time until she has a hit in her own right, which surely cannot be far away.

PRESENTER: Kimberley Walsh
