Top of the Pops, 31st August 2023

It's a Barbie switchover at the top of the chart, as friend of the show Dua Lipa replaces Billie Eilish in the number 1 position. A strong challenge comes from Doja Cat, who storms into the top 5.

There are newly featured songs from Luke Combs and Issey Cross, repeat showings from Troye Sivan and Stormzy and RAYE, and a bizarre mashup from Anne-Marie and Shania Twain as they keep breaking off from their country song to do bits of the Haddaway homage Don't Hurt Me.

Top of the Pops, 6th July 2023

It's a strong rap week this week: not only are Dave and Central Cee immovable at the top, but the chart is crashed by Stormzy, Fredo and Gunna as well. Playboi Carti is also here alongside the Weeknd, though there's no Madonna this week unfortunately. Shania Twain more than makes up for it.

Top of the Pops, 22nd June 2023

It's Dave and Central Cee's week again: Sprinter stays at the top and their two other collabs both reach new peaks just a little lower down. Not even a strong showing from J Hus and global superstar Drake can spoil their party.

Party vibes are also brought by the Jonas Brothers, Rudimental, and in unbelievably basic form, Nathan Dawe and Joel Corry. There's a rousing return for Sam Fender and a pretty surprising instance of Shania Twain as well.

Calvin Harris is back in the studio for the proper rave-up version of Miracle as it reaches six weeks at the top. Other dance bangers are brought by Anne-Marie, Rudimental and Switch Disco, and the latter two join Calvin to do a three-way euphoric remix of As It Was as Harry Styles celebrates 60 consecutive weeks on the chart, most of them in the upper reaches.

Two big names have new entries this week: Lana Del Rey and Kylie Minogue both do well with their fresh material. David Kushner is also back with his Hozier-style, inexplicably popular balled.

Ellie Goulding and Calvin hold on at the top (stripped back solo performance from Ellie this week) but they are run close by Libianca, who peaks at number 2 after several months on the chart. Also continuing to climb is Bakar, while chart behemoth Lewis Capaldi has in incredible resurgence thanks to the release of his album.

Top of the Pops, 12th January 2023

It's the weird post-Christmas chart where all the tinsel gets cleared out and the normal music floods back in to take its place. That means newish material from Central Cee and SZA, older 2022 bangers from Anne-Marie and Venbee and Goddard, and a very old, hoary and well-tested number from Tom Odell.

All the congratulations in the world to RAYE. It's been a long journey but here she is at the top.

The show is bristling with exclusives and one-off performances this week. No less names than Stormzy and Taylor Swift (with Lana Del Rey along for the ride) both perform two-track showcases of their recent albums, while Aitch and Anne-Marie stick around after doing their own song to join David Guetta and breathe new life into his Blue reimagining, UK style.

Top of the Pops, 2nd December 2021

The Adele album is out, and she is good enough to give us a bit of the top three tracks from it to close the show this week. Between that and the sudden onset of Christmas music, current chart climbers are few and far between, which gives Lost Frequencies a chance to get on the show after seven weeks in the lower reaches.

Friend of the show Anne-Marie and Niall Horan have a nice new entry with the Children In Need song, and D-Block Europe hit their highest chart placing to date. Justin Bieber and especially Imagine Dragons are featured for the first time in a while. And we have a very special in-person Mariah Carey performance with a couple of guest stars.

Trendspotters are predicting either Mmhmmm or Oi Oi for Christmas number 1 - but only if it's recorded by King Ed Sheeran, who looks all but immovable. Top of the Pops, 26th August 2021

King Ed Sheeran can't be shifted from the top and it's hard to see who would even have a chance - the highest new entry this week is from Digga D and Arrdee and well done to them, but number 6 is a long way from number 1. It's a strong and diverse line-up on the show, though, with Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, KSI, Doja Cat, Little Mix, Anne-Marie and even Tones & I all arguably the the biggest current names in their respective sub-fields. Whew.

Dave's album is out this week, so there's an exclusive performance of two tracks from him, with Stormzy in tow as well. Speaking of longtime friends of the show, can you believe it's well over a year since Rita Ora was on? And there's a super team-up by Anne-Marie and Little Mix.

From the US come Doja Cat, Lil Nas X and Camila Cabello. There's a debut appearance for Rain Radio, and King Ed Sheeran remains on his throne, looking down on the rest of the chart below him.

As the football songs exit the chart, most other tracks shuffle up a place or two, which means repeat appearances for Tom Grennan, Anne-Marie and Niall Horan, Arrdee, Tones & I, and bafflingly, Maneskin, who are still in the top ten with two different tracks, neither of which is their Eurovision winner.

New material comes from KSI and Lil Durk, plus the latest posthumous release from Pop Smoke, which Dua Lipa helps to propel a little higher than usual. Needless to say King Ed Sheeran still reigns, as just the seventh artist to hit number one this year.

Chart continuity comes from friends of the show Little Mix, with an acoustic version of their Galantis-assisted hit, plus the year-plus chart run of Harry Styles, who this week performs the track on bongos and panpipes. What will be this year's summer anthem? At the moment it looks likely to be by Olivia Rodrigo, who completely dominates the chart and indeed the show this week with three top ten hits at once. However, there's also a strong rest-of-the-world contingent here: BTS from Korea, Maneskin from Italy and indeed the barely perceptible Galantis on the Little Mix hit.

He've also got repeat showings from Mimi Webb (top ten for the first time) and Polo G, and a big new breaker from friend of the show Anne-Marie and Niall Horan.
