Top of the Pops, 6th February 2025

Wow. After a lot of reprises so far this year, this week's show has almost a full house of new entries! That means British rap from Central Cee and Aitch, US rap from Travis Scott and Sexxy Red, pop from Tate McRae, dance from BL3SS, and even a bit of good old rock from Sam Fender. Nice selection, British public!

The only repeat performer is the still-fresh-feeling Lola Young, who makes it a fortnight at the top.

The Barbie chart domination is now almost at pre-Christmas Christmas song levels - half of this week's line-up comes from the multi-platform entertainment phenomenon. Three songs crash the top five, although they still can't shift Dave and Central Cee from the very top.

The biggest non-Barbie offering is the new Travis Scott album, and he is here to perform a three-song sampler. Calvin Harris and Sam Smith have also teamed up again, and we pay tribute to Sinead O'Connor.

Debuts: Ryan Gosling

More Barbie! This week it's the turn of Charli XCX, plus the OG Barbie girls Aqua in the From The Vault slot with a classic performance. And another theme has been Dave and Central Cee at the top of the charts, which shows no sign of being discontinued.

Going international, we've got Travis Scott and Bad Bunny, as well as Noah Kahn and the New York resident ZAYN. Stormzy and RAYE's superstar team-up is the highest new entry.

Top of the Pops, 16th September 2021

Last week it was Kanye West, this week it's Drake: three songs crash into the top ten. But that's not even the biggest news story of the week, because none other than ABBA have reformed to be welcomed into the TOTP studio.

With all that upheaval, almost no one else is climbing the chart, which means we take a deep dive and unearth some gems from lower down. That means the new solo single from Charli XCX, a debut appearance for Sam Fender, Dermot Kennedy's first showing since January, and the duet between Willow (Smith) and Tyler Cole. Friends of the show Little Mix are here with their nail-biting first single as a trio, and King Ed Sheeran continues working his way up the all-time number 1s list.

Debuts: Sam Fender, Tyler Cole

In what is being billed as Radio 1's first ever number 1 hit, the Live Lounge Allstars leap four places to hit the top, all in aid of a good cause of course. The lockdown isolation vibe is carried on with downbeat solo performances from Powfu's samplee Beabadoobee and Joel Corry's collaborator Harlee, plus a Zoom chat version of the 1975.

There are also big hip hop entries (in video form) from KSI and the Scotts and dance from the 220 Kid, and Sam Fischer gets his TOTP debut at last after months in the lower reaches of the chart.

Top of the Pops, 26th September 2019

It's been pretty slow-moving chart lately, but this week we have absolute fireworks. Not only does the Charlie's Angels theme crash in just short of the top spot (sadly only two of the pop triumvirate are here to perform it) but we also have chartbreakers from Stormzy, Normani, Dave, D-Block Europe and a resurgent Lil Nas X.

Most surprising of all must be a TOTP return for Ozzy Osbourne, alongside his good friend Post Malone. In a week of turmoil, the only certainty is that King Ed Sheeran still reigns at the top.

Debuts: None

Gaga and Cooper hold firm at the top, although they can't make it into the studio this week so we see the relevant bit of the film instead. However we do have strong in-person performances from friends of the show Jess Glynne and Little Mix, plus Freya Ridings scaling yet another new chart peak.

On the American side of things we have Cardi B assuming full vocal duties on the DJ Snake track, and Kodak Black bringing both his friends along to perform the all-star version of Zeze for the first time.

Top of the Pops, 16th August 2018

A strange week. Partly because of a chart attack by Travis Scott (who performs his biggest two tracks tonight) there are very few climbers in the top 40, so we delve down into the lower reaches and dig up some sparklers. These include several tunes that have been patiently awaiting their breakthroughs for a while, from the likes of CamelPhat, Anne-Marie and Steel Banglez.

Drake holds steady at the top, and Juice Wrld continues to mope his way towards the top ten.
