Top of the Pops, 10th October 2024

The reborn Linkin Park open and close the show this week, performing their big climber Heavy Is The Crown and also adding to a thrashed-up exclusive version of Sabrina Carpenter's sempiternal number 1 Taste. Also doubling up a friends of the show Coldplay, who throw in a bit of Yellow as a nice surprise alongside their current hit, and Nines, who has two hits making headway lower down the rundown.

The biggest new entry of the week comes from The Weeknd and the biggest non-Carpenter chart achievement has to be Noah Kahan, who celebrates a year on the hit parade for Stick Season.

Top of the Pops, 9th May 2024

The tortured poet wave has largely broken, meaning that a lot of songs shuffle up a few places, giving us a nice compendium of the top hits of the moment from Benson Boone, Dasha, Artemas and even Noah Kahan. The most impressive climb, though, has to be Sabrina Carpenter skipping up all the way to her first even number 1 single.

Taylor Swift isn't completely done either, though, and she's here with another track from her super new album. Friend of the show Dua Lipa is here too, and Natasha Bedingfield is back with a second resurrected track, this time Badger-assisted.

Top of the Pops, 28th March 2024

It's quite a male line-up this week, with only Ava Max flying the female flag - even the first lady of country and western Beyonce has been knocked off the top spot in favour of Benson Boone and his questionable gender politics. Still, there are fairly storming performances from hoary growlers Teddy Swims and Rag 'N' Bone Man, and a more polished offering from V.

Noah Kahan makes a surprise return to the show, and the show is somewhat stolen by none other than Mark Knopfler and a stage full of six-string virtuosi.

Given their ubiquity just lately it would be a bit of a shock if the Last Dinner Party weren't on Top of the Pops - but here they are to open the show. Just pipping them as a high climber, though, is YG Marley, so he could be one to watch.

Megan Thee Stallion completes a trio of new entries, complementing some of the bigger hits from last year from Casso, Tate McRae and Sonny Fodera which take their 2023 momentum into a second month. But once again the week belongs to Noah Kahan, though the story of the year so far Teddy Swims is gaining on him.

Immovable at the top just now, Noah Kahan also has this week's highest new entry, so Sam Fender joins him in a double bill to close the show. Just before that Sophie Ellis-Bextor celebrates her continued resurgence with a special contemporary update of Murder On The Dancefloor.

There's also a debut for Songer, a return for friend of the show Becky Hill, and a slightly rum collaboration from The Weeknd. And were it not for Bextor, Natasha Bedingfield would be attracting quite a lot of attention for her own triumphant comeback - can she breach the top ten?

Top of the Pops, 11th January 2024

It's the post-Christmas chart, which means that everyone is going UP, which means a high-quality show where everyone is in the top ten - a true rundown of what's popular right now. That means a lot of the strongest tracks from the second half of last year, but also Sophie Ellis Bextor riding the Saltburn wave, who takes the TOTP stage for the first time in a long time and shows the rest how it's done.

Other than that, Tate McRae has a big moment with two top 20 singles, and Noah Kahan finally takes the top spot after a few patient weeks waiting for Wham! to clear out of the way.
