She hasn't been away all that long, but it's nice to see Ariana Grande hasn't lost her ability to materialise in the upper reaches of the chart at will. King Ed Sheeran, alongside the mighty Stormzy, is also now making inroads with yet another of his wildly popular duets.

In other news, we get a couple of round-ups of some lower-down hits thanks to three-song medleys from Drake and new friend of the show Aitch. And with Shawn Mendes unavailable, it falls to Stormzy to serenade Camila Cabello in the top position.

There's lots of chart movement this week, with the Arctic Monkeys, Years and Years and Rita Ora (plus girlfriends) all landing new tracks in the top 40. Meanwhile Liam Payne's hispanified track and EO's German bring a pan-European flavour, and flying the US flag, everyone's favourite men's rights activist Shawn Mendes shoots to a new peak.

Calvin and Dua are still at number 1. This week they do a version with a lot of violins in it.

At last, they've done it. Assisted by the accelerated chart ratio, Rudimental and friends make the one small step up to number 1, appearing with a carnival-type performance and big grins on their faces.

Aside from that it's mostly a rundown of faves from the last few weeks, the exception being the suspiciously smooth Shawn Mendes, in at number 13. Of note are the double-header marking the release of George Ezra's album, and the way Florida Georgia Line seem to be becoming unlikely TOTP regulars.

Elsewhere we have the second TOTP appearance this year for the unlikely Florida Georgia Line, a welcome reappearance by the girl band M.O., and the return of Years & Years. Various other popular hits of the day complete the line-up.

French Montana also reaches a new peak of number 2, and in fact there's a lot of fresh blood all the way down the top 30; we feature newies from Yungen and Lil Uzi Vert (modern!) and nearly-newies from the Script and Louis Tomlinson.

The way the chart works nowadays means that five of the songs performed on the show two weeks ago now return to the show - more than half the line-up. To keep things fresh, most of the artistes in question change up their arrangements, including a lovely candlelight performance from friend of the show Ellie Goulding and a reggaeton remix from Grande and Minaj with a cameo from the legendary Don Omar.

It's not all continuity, though - there are big returns from megastars Calvin Harris and Emeli Sande, and the slow burner from Matoma and Becky Hill finally rises high enough to make the cut in its eighth week on the chart.

Debuts: Matoma, Don Omar.

The Chainsmokers hold on at the top, heading up an almost motionless top ten. One of the few climbers in the upper reaches is Shawn Mendes, who dodges the feminist picket line to perform his dubiously reasoned track once again.

The big news, though, is that Lil Wayne's track from Suicide Squad is still inching up the chart and as if in answer to MRA Mendes, Weezy has invited an all-female posse for a super-charged TOTP exclusive. Hold on to your hats.

The exclusives keep on coming. Lil Wayne's posse cut from Suicide Squad is climbing the chart once more so he combs the studio for extra vocalists and ends up with a one-off feat. Craig David, Sean Paul and Ellie Goulding. Wow. Craig David cannot contain himself and so lends his vocals to Major Lazer's number one hit as well, in Justin Bieber's absence.

There's a rare appearance from Sia, another resurfacing of the Puth and Gomez hit, and a nice run-out for relative newcomer Anne-Marie.

The rest of this week's line-up is fairly varied, featuring dance from TIEKS, leftfield pop from Christine and the Queens, centrefield pop from Fifth Harmony, and the entire line-up of that song from the Suicide Squad film - incidentally giving the icon Lil Wayne his TOTP debut.

A 90s-style chart leads to a fevered vision of what 90s TOTP would have been like if they hadn't relaxed their rules. Apart from a straight-in chart topper from ZAYN, almost nobody (with the admirable exception of Craig David) is climbing the top 40, so most performers come from the lower reaches.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, though, as we're able to welcome some more leftfield performers than usual, including Twenty One Pilots and G-Eazy. Friends of the show Coldplay also sneak in with their Superbowl song.
