Top of the Pops, 7th December 2023

Michael Buble isn't wrong - it is indeed beginning to look a lot like Christmas, at least in the singles chart. Only Jack Harlow, at the very top of the tree, valiantly sings about something other than presents, elves, warm feelings, tinsel and such.

Apart from Wham! in the From The Vault slot, Top of the Pops brings you a selection of the more relatively contemporary Christmas hits, including new-for-this-year tracks from Jorja Smith and Sam Ryder alongside modern classics from Kelly Clarkson, Sia and friend of the show Ariana Grande.

Top of the Pops, 10th December 2020

The Christmas chart onslaught begins in earnest, although Covid being what it is, several of the original artists are available to remote-perform their evergreen hits. So as well as the archive footage of Elton, we have appearances from friend of the show Jess Glynne, Kelly Clarkson and the grande dame of Christmas herself, Mariah Carey (with a few special invitees). Even Queen Ariana Grande chucks in a bit of festivity alongside her immovable number 1 bonking anthem.

Non-Christmassy fun comes from Miley Cyrus, Liam Gallagher and CJ. Congratulations to them for impinging on the nation's mostly mince pie-focused consciousness.

What Taylor Swift can do, Sam Smith can also do. Too Good At Goodbyes drops in to say hello to the top spot, blowing everything else away. Other big new entries are from ZAYN (with the versatile Alessia Cara exclusively subbing for the absent Sia) and none other than Kelly Clarkson, while the new ones from friends of the show Jason Derulo and Rita Ora both creep into the top 30 for the first time.

If that's not enough, we have the delightful Stefflon Don, and the mental health anthem from Logic. His guest vocalist Khalid has a couple of other hits lower down the chart, so maybe we'll be seeing more of him in future weeks.

Debuts: Khalid, Young Thug.
