Top of the Pops, 28th October 2021

What a week for new releases. Not only does Adele glide serenely to number 1, but there's a new Coldplay album as well. They perform two tracks from it, giving friend of the show Selena Gomez her first appearance in 2021. Dermot Kennedy makes an impressive chart leap of his own, standing out amid a sea of big names: Lil Nas X, the Weeknd, Doja Cat, Justin Bieber and indeed Ed Sheeran at a more modest chart position than usual.

Top of the Pops, 21st October 2021

Many, many congratulations to Elton John and Dua Lipa for doing what many thought impossible and deposing King Ed Sheeran from number 1 - for the moment at least. Their track has a very old-school feel about it, not only because it's a combination of older songs but because it's climbed to number 1 by building popularity with the general public. Fancy.

Elsewhere we've got a debut from Ewan McVicar and a sort-of debut for Jesy Nelson, plus a double-header from Sam Fender who makes a bit of a chart breakthrough this week. The Willow and Tyler Cole (aka The Anxiety) track is also climbing impressively. And why is Adele back in the chart?

Debuts: Ewan McVicar, Jesy Nelson (as solo)

Ewan McVicar - Tell Me Something Good

Up 8 to number 34

Jesy Nelson ft Nicki Minaj - Boyz

Highest New Entry - In at number 4

Willow and Tyler Cole - Meet Me At Our Spot

Up 5 to number 19

Becky Hill vs Topic - My Heart Goes (La Di Da)

Up 2 to number 13

Shouse - Love Tonight

Up 4 to number 18

From The Vault: Adele - Someone Like You
