Top of the Pops, 22nd August 2024

After a summer of Sabrina stability, and a week of Charli, there's more upheaval at the top of the chart as Chase and Status and Stormzy smash into the number 1 spot. It's a pretty dance-heavy week all around in fact, with Adam Port, BL3SS, the Blessed Madonna and the lord of the floor Calvin Harris (again with princess Ellie Goulding) all appearing. The other Madonna, Madonna, is also featured in the from the vault slot.

But despite all that, the show is possibly stolen by a resurgent Jade, performing the slow, angelic, dramatic version of Angel Of My Dreams with piano and orchestra.

Top of the Pops, 23rd May 2024

The year's trend so far for hits by earnest beardy guys is showcased particularly well this week, with longish runners Mark Ambor and Michael Marcagi joined by Myles Smith and, more alarmingly, Post Malone and Morgan Wallen (maybe not all of them have beards, but they are beardy in spirit).

However there is tonal variation provided by Chappell Roan and Eurovision's triumphant Nemo. And the ever perky Sabrina Carpenter remains at the top.

There's lots of chart activity this week, with friend of the show Dua Lipa and the first solo single from Perrie (Edwards) (from Little Mix) both crashing the top ten - but neither with as much of a jolt as Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso.

There are also chart inroads being made by David Guetta and the exciting new talent Chappell Roan, while Mark Ambor reaches another new chart peak. Clementine Douglas is here with a solo, Madonna-less version of Happier. And the world-weary stylings of Hozier are still at number 1.

Given their ubiquity just lately it would be a bit of a shock if the Last Dinner Party weren't on Top of the Pops - but here they are to open the show. Just pipping them as a high climber, though, is YG Marley, so he could be one to watch.

Megan Thee Stallion completes a trio of new entries, complementing some of the bigger hits from last year from Casso, Tate McRae and Sonny Fodera which take their 2023 momentum into a second month.
