Top of the Pops, 17th September 2015

There's a blistering start to this week's show as Ed Sheeran gives us his take on banger-of-the-moment Where Are U Now, as Justin Bieber has the week off. Skrillex (no Diplo this week either) then returns the favour with a techno dismantling of Sheeran's Photograph. Mega!

Also rocking the house are Galantis and friend of the show Jess Glynne, while Ella Henderson pops up twice, both guesting on the Kygo track and helping out with another exclusive girl/girl take on Rita Ora's Body On Me. Sigala lands at number 1.

Top of the Pops, 10th September 2015

We're very pop this week, with Demi Lovato, Little Mix, 5 Seconds Of Summer and new number 1 Justin Bieber providing the bulk of the show. Bieber also doubles up to fill in for the dashing (but again unavailable) Chris Brown on Pia Mia's Do It Again.

Friend of the show The Weeknd has released his album and invaded the lower reaches of the chart with no fewer than four mini-hits; he performs two of them alongside continued smash Can't Feel My Face. This week's archive dredge is Elton John - why is he back in the chart?

We've a fair dose of girl power this week, with Rachel Platten smashing in at the top and backup from Ella Eyre and a Chaka Khan anthem in its latest incarnation from Jaehn and Thompson. And best of all, with the dashing Chris Brown unavailable once again, Eyre doubles up to turn Rita Ora's song into a ladies-only par-tay. Selena Gomez's lyric isn't perhaps quite so girl powery, but what can you do, she's still repping the sisters.

Meanwhile, friends of the show One Direction belie their name by bouncing back up the chart, and there are also returns from Galantis and the rapper Silento (who I completely misidentified a few weeks ago, so sorry about that).

Debuts: Rachel Platten, Felix Jaehn, Jasmine Thompson.

Lots of non-movers and dippers in the chart this week, so we uncover some hidden and not-so-hidden gems from outside the Top 40 - a twosie from 5 Seconds Of Summer and that old sludger from Hozier. Maroon 5 and Fifth Harmony also pop up to take advantage of the chart's tranquility.

Further up the rankings, we have a big new entry from Martin Solveig, and an even bigger one from Jess Glynne, who's making it look pretty easy at the moment.

Top of the Pops, 20th August 2015

It's a deep-cut week on TOTP: most featured songs this week come from placings in the 20s and 30s. Not that that's a bad thing - it allows space for medleys from Galantis and friend of the show The Weeknd, as well as the hot newie from Selena Gomez and old reliables from Birdy and James Bay.

That oldest of old reliables Ed Sheeran is also back, with Photograph, and with the dashing Chris Brown unavailable for his Rita Ora feature, who can we call on? Step forward... Ed Sheeran again! Puth and Trainor are sparky and sparkly in the number 1 slot.

This week there's one of those supremely awkward appearances by a studio covers group that's somehow ended up in the chart - in this case Silento. To be fair, though, Joe Stone's performance isn't that much better, featuring some awkwardly shuffling backing dancers in the absence of Montell Jordan, whose track it basically is.

Some class is restored, though, by the jet-setting glamour of Calvin Harris, the indefinable charm of Shaggy, and a salute to the late and much-loved Cilla Black in the From The Vault slot.

Debuts: Mohombi, Faydee, Costi, Silento, Joe Weller, Emil, Joe Stone.

There's a very special performance this week, as the people behind two of the tracks of the summer, Major Lazer and OMI, team up for a reggae crossover mashup combined performance of them both.
