Even into October, the Summer of Heartfeltness continues: we have a second consecutive week without Sam Smith (?!) but his absence is more than made up for by further helpings of George Ezra and friend of the show Ed Sheeran. There's some good old-fashioned pop-dance as well, mind - a trio of pop queens sit at number 1, and Ariana Grande also gets the most out of her plan ticket and performs her own hit Break Free as well. Next week's likely number 1 is not here yet, but Power Music Workout represent the song with their cheeky ripoff, a troupe of hired dancers playing it for laughs.
Not sure why Cilla Black is lurking in the chart's lower reaches, but From the Vault digs her out so that we can speculate.

Blame, blame, blame. George Ezra and friend of the show John Newman are both discussing it this week - Newman in a solo performance because Calvin Harris is off DJing somewhere. We also enjoy an energising turn from Fall Out Boy, and a treat from Christina Aguilera: she is in the building for her feature on the Great Big World song, so who better to take the mic with Clean Bandit for a very special performance of Rather Be. Morose-voiced overgrown choirboy Sam Smith also pops in for the fourth week in a row, by virtue of having multiple tracks climbing the list lately.

We have two Robin Shulz remixes this week, as it happens - Lilly Wood stays at number 1, while Mr Probz's laidback sounds are back in the top 20. Duke Dumont just misses out on a hat trick of number 1s, crashing in at number 2, and 5 Seconds of Summer finally get on with Amnesia, which has been floating around the lower reaches for a couple of months. Lastly some sad news: the GRL song has entered the chart in tribute following Simone Battle's death; we show a video montage for her.

This week's TOTP concentrates much more than usual on the lower reaches of the chart - a bubbler-under from George Ezra, a re-entering oldie from Kate Bush dug out of the archives, and a former number 1 from Kiesza.
Elsewhere, Iggy continues to climb, Sam Smith shows no sign of going anywhere, and there are sparky new entries from Ariana Grande and Lethal Bizzle. The song Prayer in C scraped onto the show last week as rendered by one of those weird studio covers people, but now we have the proper Schulz-assisted version from Lilly Wood atop the chart.

In a busy week for new entries we get drop-bys from the ever-energetic Union J, the intriguingly named Wankelmut and the irreproachable Taylor Swift among others. On the other side of things there are long running tunes from Vance Joy (performed this time mainly on tambourines) and friend of the show Ed Sheeran. Boremaster deluxe Sam Smith is in the building too, but the top of the chart belongs to David Guetta.

Nico & Vinz pull off a rare (these days) second week at number 1 and return to the studio to perform the song in style. There are big splashes this week for Kiesza and Iggy Azelea, who brings Rita Ora along and adds snatches of Fancy to their performance of new hit Black Widow. Friend of the show Ed Sheeran is also back to celebrate Don't's release as a proper single, which sends it climbing close to the top ten for the first time.
