Top of the Pops, 15th October 2015

As Bieber bounces back up to the top - again! - we have to make do with the video. He's a busy guy. But never fear, Drake is here, along with friend of the show Ellie Goulding, Natalie La Rose, Naughty Boy, Arrow Benjamin but sadly still no Beyonce.

Fans of The Vamps will love this week's show: the boys open the half-hour, and then recur when you least expect it to fill in for Adam Levine in a super-special version of Locked Away by R City.

The top of the charts this week belongs to Sam Smith and his toe-tappin' Bond song, and the singer of the moment is also happy to help out friend of the show Pia Mia on a unique and bewitching version of her long-running hit Do It Again. Weirdly, though, Smith's vocals on the Disclosure track are sung this week by Lorde, who combines it with her own new brothers feature Magnets.

The tempo is kept ebullient by Walk The Moon and Little Mix, and super-regular TOTP featuree The Weeknd is also back again, along with Ed Sheeran.

Friend of the show Birdy is also back with mid-chart perennial Wings, and there's a nice bit of urban edge in the shape of a frenetic two-song tear-up from Stormzy.

There's a blistering start to this week's show as Ed Sheeran gives us his take on banger-of-the-moment Where Are U Now, as Justin Bieber has the week off. Skrillex (no Diplo this week either) then returns the favour with a techno dismantling of Sheeran's Photograph. Mega!

Also rocking the house are Galantis and friend of the show Jess Glynne, while Ella Henderson pops up twice, both guesting on the Kygo track and helping out with another exclusive girl/girl take on Rita Ora's Body On Me. Sigala lands at number 1.

We're very pop this week, with Demi Lovato, Little Mix, 5 Seconds Of Summer and new number 1 Justin Bieber providing the bulk of the show. Bieber also doubles up to fill in for the dashing (but again unavailable) Chris Brown on Pia Mia's Do It Again.

Friend of the show The Weeknd has released his album and invaded the lower reaches of the chart with no fewer than four mini-hits; he performs two of them alongside continued smash Can't Feel My Face. This week's archive dredge is Elton John - why is he back in the chart?

We've a fair dose of girl power this week, with Rachel Platten smashing in at the top and backup from Ella Eyre and a Chaka Khan anthem in its latest incarnation from Jaehn and Thompson. And best of all, with the dashing Chris Brown unavailable once again, Eyre doubles up to turn Rita Ora's song into a ladies-only par-tay. Selena Gomez's lyric isn't perhaps quite so girl powery, but what can you do, she's still repping the sisters.

Meanwhile, friends of the show One Direction belie their name by bouncing back up the chart, and there are also returns from Galantis and the rapper Silento (who I completely misidentified a few weeks ago, so sorry about that).

Debuts: Rachel Platten, Felix Jaehn, Jasmine Thompson.

Ella Eyre - Good Times
