Top of the Pops, 30th January 2014

The middle of the chart is quiet this week, so we have some big new entries from the top and some (for now) lower-charting new songs from the outer reaches. Vance Joy returns to reprise 'Riptide' by candlelight and there are precocious turns from Neon Jungle and the Vamps (with a two-song medley), but the evening belongs to a triumphant Clean Bandit, looking indeed like there's no place they'd rather be.

Top of the Pops, 16th January 2014

A couple of rare treats this week. First Beyonce jets in to bring us (most of) not one but two tracks from her barricade-storming new album. Second, the Gaga/Aguilera diva double both appear to sing the revamped version of Do What U Want which is currently giving the track a second wind. Elsewhere there is a high banger concentration; Pharrell isn't here in person so we enjoy the video for Happy.

Happy New Year

Hi, viewers, and happy New Year.

There was of course no fantasy TOTP over the Christmas period, because the slot was taken by the real TOTP that were actually broadcast on TV (not in my head) on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. They were pretty good, weren't they?

Normal fantasy TOTP service will resume next week on 9th January at half past seven. Until then, here's a list of the most featured artists and friends-of-the-show of 2013:

Seven appearances: Ellie Goulding
Six appearances: Avicii, John Newman
Five appearances: Lily Allen, OneRepublic, Rudimental, Jason Derulo
Four appearances: Arctic Monkeys, Bastille, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, One Direction, Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke

All hail Ellie, Queen of the Pops (and she was on both real-life festive editions too). Who will top the list in 2014?
